Hi Everyone, I am Gunjan, currently working as a Senior HR executive in an IT company in Noida. I am looking forward to some new policies, ideas, or changes that can be implemented in the company to help motivate everyone. Currently, we have all the regular policies typical of a mid-sized IT company.

I kindly request you all to share your thoughts; it would be greatly appreciated.

Nice to know that you are looking for new ideas for the IT company. Before I proceed to suggest, it would be better to know the expectations of the company as you said you have most of the policies. Either you can send me the list of the policies you have to analyze and help you devise innovative things.

I would suggest devising the areas of changes first and then looking for the problems people generally face. You will then have a better and more meaningful policy as people practically want you to solve the organization's problems when they ask to devise new HR policies.

Areas for Innovation in the IT Industry

A few areas where you can be innovative in the IT industry are:

- Flexi timing: work schedules, work from home for high performers
- Devising performance parameters
- Providing extra benefits, challenges, and prizes
- E-store for employees, monthly gift options based on performance, etc.
- Employee engagement
- Employee training
- Employee growth plans
- Annual meetings and plans
- Birthday celebrations, outings, travel policies
- Work-life balance schedules and sessions with employees
- Benefits for long-term employees

And more details, I could suggest if you provide me with the current policies and the budget planned for expansion if new policies require implementation.

I hope this will be beneficial for you.

Hi Arvi, thanks a lot. Yes, we do have a budget, and we have all the below policies: Celebrations, work from home, employee recognition, team outings, flexi timings, PMS. However, we are still looking for something new and innovative. We are a small company, so the budget is not much. Any suggestions that may be cost-effective would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for appreciating the response. As you mentioned that you have nice things followed in your organization, I want to first thank you for having something good at your hand, such as a good policy.

Policy Development for Employee Motivation

Now, as you mentioned that you need a policy, idea, or change focusing on the words "helpful and towards the motivation of all," I believe my suggestion of "first, and then look for the problems generally people face" will help you create a checklist of what needs modification.

Steps to Gather Employee Feedback

To achieve this, you can gather feedback from employees by asking them open-ended questions and inviting suggestions. This approach can encourage them to share the problems they are facing.

It's important to note that employees may not give suggestions openly due to fears that management will take action against them. Therefore, if you can maintain confidentiality and hold personal meetings with your employees, you will be better positioned to analyze areas that require change.

As an external person to your organization, I may not know your internal environment well. However, I believe that there is no better way to see the real impact of your policies than by engaging with your employees directly, rather than just creating policies on paper.

Once you are done with this process, I will be better able to assist you.

Wishing you all the success.

Arvi

Clarity in Policy Changes

Some new policies, some new ideas, and some change. These words denote vague thinking. It is like sitting in a taxi and asking the driver to take you somewhere. You need to be sure of your destination. You seem to be a young man desperate for a change, but you are not able to spell out what change you would like to bring about in the company's policies and why.

You need to ask a few questions to set a direction to move towards the desired change, such as why the existing policies, according to you, are inadequate, what specific change you would like to bring about, and what goals the expected change would achieve, etc. Sit and think coolly and spell out in clear terms what you exactly want so that the learned members can answer your need.
