Respected seniors, is salary/wages deduction permissible due to late coming to the office? To what extent is this allowed, and if so, could you kindly provide references to the relevant clauses? I am grateful for your early advice.

Hi, as per my thinking, formulate a policy wherein employees who are late more than a specific number of times will be penalized with leave deduction. For example, if an employee is late more than three times in a month, then one day of leave deduction can be applied, which can be casual or earned leave. In cases where leaves are not available, opt for a pay deduction method. Additionally, you can calculate the number of hours late and make deductions from the gross salary proportionately.

We do have a policy formulated on late logins. It purely depends on management and the industry to which you belong. In general, most organizations follow this to ensure discipline within the organization. However, they cannot implement the policy as is. HR should design and roll out a policy specifically for this purpose, and based on that, they can proceed with implementation. Please let me know if you need any further clarifications on this.
