My brother worked in the previous company for only 6 days. However, he received and accepted the appointment letter on the company letterhead. After 6 days, he did not attend the job without providing any information, and the company sent a legal notice to my address.

It all depends on your offer letter and terms and conditions. If it is mentioned that one has to perform XYZ days of notice period and has signed on that, then he has to serve the number of days or else he has to pay the adjustable amount. What you can do is speak with the HR person and try to address the issue. If possible, provide some medical documentation for those days. This way, you can have a strong excuse not to serve the company during the notice period due to doctor's precautions. The rest depends on your conversation and how considerate you are towards the HR person and what is stated in the offer letter. Just make sure to communicate politely as you are in a less favorable position.
