Hi Folks, I have over 7 years of experience. Three weeks ago, I joined a Software MNC in Chennai. I have been assigned to a project that I am not comfortable with. When I asked for a release, I was told by HR and the PM that it is not possible. One HR representative mentioned that since I was hired for this specific project, a release from the company can only be granted if I push for it. However, there is no probation period as per the offer letter. I would like to inquire about the following:
1. How can this happen? As per the company policy, I have to complete a 90-day notice period as per the offer letter. In the case of mutual understanding, can't I be released from the project only? Can the company ask me to resign with immediate effect?
2. Even if they ask me to leave, will I receive a proper relieving letter and salary for the working days? Does the employer have the right to withhold my salary?
3. How can I resign properly instead of leaving the company within a 10-day notice period and ensure payment for the working days?
4. Will this situation affect my future job prospects in other Software MNCs?
Thanks,
Kumar

Please let us know whether you are capable of completing the project or if you are capable but not comfortable with the situations. This information is required because you have been hired for a specific project.
Notice Period Clarification
In your first query, you mentioned that you have to complete a 90-day notice period. Is this notice period for probation as well, or after confirmation? Please clarify. You mentioned that in case of mutual understanding, you may be released from the project or face termination, depending on your Project Manager/Reporting Manager who will assess your skills for other projects. However, since you have been hired for a specific project, the chances of being released from the project only are very low.
Project Handling and Queries
For your second query, it depends on the project you have handled within three weeks of joining.
In response to your third query, please sit with your HR, Reporting/Project Manager, and sort it out across the table.
Background Verification
Regarding your last query, it again depends on the New Employer's Background Verification Team.
