Dear seniors, please let me know:

Provisions for Female Workers in Night Shifts

1. Are there any provisions regarding the permissibility of female workers to work night shifts under the Factories Act or Factory Rules (state-wise)?

2. What is the position in the Shops and Establishment Act regarding female workers working night shifts?

As per Section 66 (b) of the Factories Act, the permissible working hours for women are from 6 am to 7 pm. However, the State Government is empowered to grant exemptions as per requirements. At no point should any female worker be engaged between 10 pm and 5 am.

Comparison of Shop and Establishment Act with Factory Act

As per the Shop and Establishment Act: No young person or woman shall be required or allowed to work in any establishment before 6 am and after 7 pm.

Hence, the above act stated in the Shop and Establishment Act is similar to the Factory Act.
