The HR department informed me that this was a decision made by the company's headquarters, but they assured me it would be corrected within three months. They suggested I accept the offer letter first, and then they would process the correction of my designation.
My situation was quite challenging due to the lack of salary payments from my previous company and the recession in the IT sector, so I accepted the offer letter on the day of joining. My role in the present company, considering my experience and additional responsibilities, does not align with my profile, yet my designation remains at an entry-level IT professional.
I am currently earning half the salary compared to five years ago. I do not have issues with my technical skills, but being underpaid and holding a junior designation makes me feel like I am working as bonded labor. I want to switch companies and return to the IT sector. Please suggest what I should do.

Your HR said it would take 3 months to change the ESIC designation. But you mentioned you have been working for 3 years. I don't understand the mismatch. Did you go and ask them again for the change? You should not have waited for 3 years to change from a low-paying job. The recession made little difference to the salaries and demand for good designers. Apply for new jobs. Show them the type of work you have done; change should not be a problem.

After joining, I moved my application through the HOD but did not get a proper response. Every time I was told that it takes one or two months. After that, I asked what the reason behind it was, and then they told me if you are designated properly, then you can switch your job because I had an overburden of responsibility and work, and they did not want to lose me as an employee. I don't want to engage in unfair activities by switching jobs and taking risks like that due to the heavy responsibilities of my family and no other source of income.

You are working for a company that is very short-sighted, apparently. Well, apply to new companies anyway. During the interview, tell them that you have been given a lower designation, but this is the work you are doing and your responsibility. Most recruiters will consider that, not just what your designation says. If possible, get HR to provide you with a job description that you can show during an interview.

You may be asked to demonstrate your skills in tests conducted by the company. Approach these tests with a positive attitude. If you feel that your current company is not a good fit for you, it may be best to leave as soon as possible. You can consider restarting your career with smaller but growing companies.
