Hi Everybody, I have been selected at Chennai Anna University for my Ph.D. Before going for the Ph.D. interview, I discussed with my guide and selected a topic as "Impact of Training & Development on the behavioral indicators in the manufacturing sector." However, during the interview, the panel members felt that it was a very wide and vague topic and asked me to change it after the discussion with my guide. Nevertheless, I was still selected for the Ph.D.
I am interested in doing my Ph.D. in the field of recruitment or in training & development. Please suggest some topics related to these fields. Also, I would like to know if I can select topics related to learning, perception, attitude, etc. If so, please suggest some topics in this area as well.

May we know your background? Have you done any literature survey to find out what others have done, how and why in that way, and what gaps exist in that field to add new knowledge? If not, that is the first step. The panel is quite right in their view; I am rather surprised that your guide did not ask you to do what I have suggested and use the "Funnel Approach" to narrow the field. Please search CiteHr where there is a lot of material on doing a Ph.D.

Thank you for the response, Nashbramhall! To be frank, I didn't do much literature survey on this topic. Since it is an initial interview, I told my guide only the field that I'm interested in. My guide gave me the title and helped me for the interview, that's it...

I want to do a Ph.D. in the HR field, and it is in part-time mode since I'm working as a faculty member for an MBA. I will attach the PowerPoint slides that I prepared for my interview, and I presented the same during the interview as well.

The PPT you attached doesn't say anything about your background—like Simhan wanted to know in order to advise you on a suitable PhD topic. I hope you realize the reasons why your background becomes relevant and important to even make a beginning in suggesting suitable topics. I suggest attaching a brief synopsis or resume of yours.
Also, as Simhan mentioned, this issue was discussed many times in CiteHR earlier. You can use the research facility at the top of this page to do a search. Here's the link for a broad-level search—please go through the threads discussed earlier and make your choice. This would enable you to narrow down your focus for a suitable topic.
