Hi,

I have taken a break from my career as a software professional for about 4 years due to personal reasons. Meanwhile, I had done a course in software testing. I would now like to restart my career in software testing. Can anyone suggest if it would be possible for me to restart my career again?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Hey Swetha, why are you taking too much time to restart your career, dear? How much experience do you have? If you are scared to give a new start to your career, then I would say that until you apply for the position, how can you understand the actual situation and what you need to resolve your problem? You need to apply for jobs first and face the interviews. During the interview, when recruiters ask you the reason for this break, you just need to tell them the exact reason honestly, and I'm sure they will appreciate this. Also, you need practice.

As you mentioned that you were still working on enhancing your professional skills by learning new courses/software testing, I'm sure this will have improved your skills. Now, in your current situation, you need confidence, determination, and faith in yourself, which are really important for you.

And one more thing, you don't need to worry about anything. Just make a new CV and apply for jobs. Also, if possible, join an institute for new and advanced courses according to the market demand, which will give you more chances to start a new inning. I want to let you know that institutes are also offering placements to their students.

Best of Luck

Hello Swetha,

In a way, Anil Kr Arora is right. But since you belong to the software community, there could be a few things that you need to ponder.

1] What was your skill BEFORE you took the break?

2] Any reason why you did the Testing course, when the right thing to do would possibly be a course in whatever your original skill was—to enhance your knowledge base and keep in touch technically?

3] If the reasons were ACTUAL personal reasons, it may not matter, but if they were medical, then you may need to show the evidence that you are OK now. Even for 'personal' reasons, you may need to explain at some places—not all would take at face value a LONG gap of 4 yrs without inquiring the reasons.

And like Anil Kr Arora said: unless you put your feet into water, how will you know the depth? All the Best.

Regards,
TS
