Hi all, I am a research scholar and would like help from an HR professional with exposure in Training and Development for employees. I want to know how organizations identify the need for training, the benefits of training programs for employees and the organization, as well as the challenges they face in training and development programs. I would really appreciate it if you could provide some insights for me on these.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Pavithra S

Challenges in Training and Development

1. **Mentality**
Not all employees understand the need for training and development. Some of them think they're perfect and have no need to be corrected. This usually occurs with senior staff and young executives.

2. **Monetary**
This refers to the allocation of money to conduct training and development processes. Some organizations never plan to conduct such activities.

The first sentence of the first paragraph of your post reads, "Not all of the employees understand the need for training and development." I would like to make a small addition or correction here. You may replace the word "employees" with "employer."

Identifying the Need for Training in Organizations

The need for training in my organization is usually based on quantitative feedback obtained from unit heads and department heads. We also use various observational techniques to identify if training is needed. By using a role-based training strategy, we can identify the competencies, knowledge, and skills required, and training is provided accordingly. The organization has observed the benefit of having a multi-skilled, flexible, and motivated workforce.

Benefits of Training Programs

Employees have provided feedback that they are happier due to the development initiatives. We can provide individuals with a clear path, and they have started focusing on tasks at hand, becoming more efficient.

Challenges in Training and Development Programs

Getting management to agree to training initiatives was not a challenge once we proved their benefits. Challenges we faced included creating training content for employees, especially with a diverse workforce in terms of education and language.

Making training content more practical was challenging at times due to a lack of real-world examples. The biggest challenge was coordinating with operations on various topics like attendance, time allocation for training, training location, and the timing of training sessions for employees.
