I have a query regarding the resignation date.
1. If the HR team receives an employee's resignation, does the notice period start from that day onwards?
2. If an employee sends their resignation to their manager, should we consider that day as the resignation date, and will the notice period start from that day?

Resignation Date: The date reflected in the resignation letter when submitted directly to the manager as a hard copy or the date on which the employee sends it to the manager or reporting head in an email as a soft copy, intimating the intention to resign. This is as per the standard or generally accepted/followed guidelines.
The resignation may reach the HR at a later date after failed negotiation or late acceptance, which will not be taken into account to calculate the notice period. Hope the info is clear.

Verbal intimation of the resignation is not generally accepted as a formal intimation to resign. A written document (Resignation Letter) supporting your verbal claim of resignation should be submitted. The date on which the same is initiated will be the officially recorded resignation date.

There are cases where I have faced employees extending their notice period to 2 months. Basically, it's up to the employer and employee relation, depending upon work and urgency; we can extend or even reduce the employee's notice period.
