Hi,

I've joined a construction company where there was no HR department. My immediate task was to set up one. I did it to a certain extent by creating personal records for everyone and then rolling out a performance management system, etc. Now, I am engaged in devising the HR policy for the employees. Can anyone guide me in this? It has to be comprehensive and objective, starting right from manpower planning to separation, including statutory obligations and other welfare measures. Can anyone help?

Do you mean an employee handbook or a complete orientation of HR? What policies are you putting into place - at least initially. Let us know so maybe you would get some quick hit responses. Cheers! Rekha

Hi Hari,

Please familiarize yourself with the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act of 1971. There have been numerous judgments made regarding the treatment of construction employees.

Hi Gopi,

Thank you for the suggestion, but I am more concerned with the employees of my company, i.e., the project manager, project engineers, site engineers, site supervisors, stores manager, et al. Even though I am trying to take care of the compliance related to contract labor too, my work is on a bigger scope.
