Hello!
I do have a project in university.
It's about Salary Scale, and how to do it.
First, does 'Salary Scale' mean 'Salary Structure'?
I am not finding any info on the net, concerning this subject, although, I tried many synonyms: pay scale,...
Any Idea? Any documents, info, powerpoint to share? :S
Thank You!
Have A Nice Day :)

I need first to know the difference between both of them (or are they synonyms?)
Second, I need to know how do we do a salary scale in a company, and what are the needs to elaborate such a thing? Who are the persons involved? Who should do it? etc..etc..
Basic Information. It's for a project in university, not for a professional purpose!

Hi
Salary structure consists of various salary components like Basic, HRA, Conveyance Allowance, Special Allowance, etc...
In some of the components govt. laws appied like in Class A cities HRA should be 50% of Basic wherein in Class B cities its 40%. In case cony. allowance exceed more than Rs. 800 its become taxable etc.
I suggest you to refer to some some good books based on company laws and search for some links based on company laws.

Dear Raykazan,

Salary scale to me is closely related to a group of roles / fucntions and based on then grading the upper & lower limit of salary paid.

It can also be related to Job Value or cost of Job. Suppose there ia a need to a new team member in a Team which performs certain function, so for that basically we will have to collate data about the existing Team members based on
1) Qualification
2) Years of total work expereince
3) Relevant work experience

Thus once we have slotted on the members we get the data on the employee cost and thus E.x. :

A BE with 3 years experience is under the bracket - 3 lac

A Diploma in Engg. with 7 years experice is in bracket with 2.5 lac.

Thus slowly you will get a defines structure and then you can creat bands and do Grading for each skill with combinations.

This in turn will help in costing the Job and when you need to hire a new member you can easily compared the person selected to make the offer.

When large organization which have made rigid structures in salary based with such grades , they follow what we call the "Salary scale"..like goverment jobs.

Here Jobs are graded and the Basic salary is fixed at different level, which we call a salary scale. These deal with only the Basic Salary as the DA and other emoluments are a fixed percetage for the employee.

In private secotr we have Salary Bands and grading which is used for compared which making a offer or comparing the salary with the skill set or qualification.

This is alos used for making corrections in salary or increments for employees.

Hi, I think salary scale refers to the different categories, levels, positions or groupings of salary. For example: From officers to Manager, Managers to Directors, etc Regards,

As per I Know Salary / Pay scale would mean salary fixed for a particular post for current as well as future years.
For example suppose your pay scale is 15000-700-900-1200 that means that this year your salary is 15000. in later years it will increase by 700-900-1200 respectively. In fifth year you will get promoted to next post and another pay scale for that post if you were not promoted in past years.
Generally Pay scale is fixed in government jobs were irrespective of your performance you will be promoted to next post and pay scale after completion of an old pay scale. This is the reason why goverment staffs are very lazy.
Salary structure means break up of your salary i.e: basic, da, hra, conveyance allowance, cea, any special allowance etc. Your PF and Bonus will be connected with your basic + DA. Gratuity will also be connected with your Basic + DA at the time of retirement / resignation.

Dear,
Salary scale means the starting pay plus the yearly iancraeement upto certain period yaearly then either there is a efficiency bar to qualify for the next level of salary which then reaches the last stage. Basically this is mostly applicable in Govt service where it is prescribed for eacah post/rank. Allowances and perks are extra.
In Private sector it is the starting salary which one gets which include everything best known as CTC and it then broken into various components like basic salaey, HRA, ESI,PF, Tpt allce etc.
