Notice Period

If any person resigns from their job, when does the notice period start? Does the count of the notice period begin from the date of submission of resignation? Does the relieving date also count as part of the notice period? Are the date of resignation and the date of relieving included or excluded in the notice period? Are there any rules and regulations regarding the notice period?

Notice period starts from the next day of resignation. Even the day of relieving is also counted in the notice period. Each company has a different policy, which is mentioned in the appointment letter. As per that, the notice pay is calculated. Any more details required.

Ok, let me explain with an example: Let's assume that in your company, the notice period is one month. An employee, "X," has resigned from his services on November 1st, 2009, and your management approved his resignation on November 2nd, 2009. His notice period is counted from November 1st, 2009 (the day he resigned), and it ends on November 30th, 2009. On this day, he is relieved from the services of the company (even the relieving date is counted).

In the majority of companies, the date of submission of the resignation letter is considered as day one of that particular employee's notice period, and the relieving date is considered the last day of his notice period.
