Hi Asmita,

Well, any person whose gross salary is less than or equal to Rs. 10,000 per month is covered under ESI. 4.75% of gross is contributed by the employer, while 1.75% of the gross is deducted from the employee's salary as a contribution towards ESI. It is a statutory requirement.

I have got the following information and thought of sharing the same with you. A copy of the notification has been attached herewith.
Wage ceiling for coverage of employees under ESI is raised from 7500/- per month to Rs. 10,000/-
The Government of India has amended the Employees' State Insurance (Central) Rules, 1950 and the same is called `Employees' State Insurance (Central) (First Amendment) Rules, 2006'
Accordingly the wage ceiling for coverage of employees under ESI is raised from 7500/- per month to Rs. 10,000/- per month, with effect from 1st October 2006. In other words all those employees who receive monthly salary of Rs. 10,000/- or below will be covered under ESI and the employer will have to contribute 4.75% on their salary.

Hi, this is Harsha. Those who are getting less than or equal to 10000 gross salary are eligible for ESI. You can deduct 1.75% from the employee, and 4.75% will be paid to the ESI corporation by the employer (this calculation depends on Gross salary). You need to submit the challans of this ESI on or before the 15th date of the preceding month. The challan will be deposited in SBI. For more information, please call me at 9966262626. Ok, bye.

The ESI Scheme is implemented area-wise in a phased manner. New geographical areas are notified for implementation, from time to time, by state/central government, taking into consideration the density of coverable industrial population within a given geographical area called a "center."

The provisions of the ESI Act have been extended gradually to the following classes of establishments under Section 1(5) of the Act by most state governments:
a. shops
b. hotels & restaurants
c. road motors transport undertakings
d. cinemas
e. newspaper establishments
