Hello,

I would like begin by giving a brief introduction about myself, I am Reena Banavali pursuing my MBA from SIES college of Management studies and am presently doing my summer internship and I intend specializing in HR.

Now as a part of my academic project, I am asked to survey companies in Banking,Insurance and Logistics industries and obtain from selected participant companies' details of executive compensation structure and then compare survey data to determine relative positions of different companies in terms of total remuneration as well as individual components/subgroups.

We have begun by targeting selected companies but are facing a problem with regards to obtaining information.

I was keen to know if I could get a deeper insight into the salary structures in the above mentioned industries...an industry average of the same would help. We also need to prepare a grade equvalence grid for which we need the structural hirearchies.

Hope to recieve a positive response from those who have first hand information with regards to the same.

most of the company have there own compensation philosphy , any policy that can be base on location ,supply and deemand.

Hello Reena,

Currently we are also doing a research on compensation structure followed in different industries and levels like goverment organization, semi-goverment organization and private sector. This is huge in terms of the data needed to arrive at a good report.

With in the same Industry there are different structures followed. For example in public limited companies there organization/companies still follow the traditional method of paying their employees like they have a fixed structure which is decided, directed and governed by the central/state government of India and pay commissions. This compensation structure has not much relevant to performance of individuals or they intend to motivate people in the organization. However in recent times we have seen few of the government organization changing this model and heading towards structures which are based on the performance of the employee as well as the organization. In this shift lot of tradition allowances or facilities are taken away as they are no longer exist or relevant in the modern world.

When you move to the private sector there are again different structures and policies followed for different industries. For example in IT industry there is combination of compensation structure followed like a mix of fixed, variable, flexible etc. This again will vary from organization to organization. For example the policy followed at Accenture will be different from Infosys or Wipro.

So what I meant above is, it is not that easy to make a report or study on the compensation followed in different industry. The industry you have selected has no common compensation structure too.
