Dear Anjana,
I have also started HR department in my company.
Interact with each employee individually try to know them and their issues. Discuss with them about their Job Profile , what exactly they do ?
Then in total discuss with management about employees facing this pblms ?
And then u will come to know what to do next ?
But go step by step....Dnt start framing policies.
Try to know more about business and its processes.. Which will give u way.
If u have any doubt ask me.

@nidhishah: Perfectly answered.
I too moved into HR role from being an ES to a VPHR and didnt know what to do with the 35 employees that i had to fit into. Infact you can start speaking to employees and you would surely know your way out. There is Attendance, Leaves, Payroll, Holidays, Late Comings and Company profile and understanding Employee Psyche and their expectations, understanding groupism, favouritism, understanding office politics, and who stands where before you jump into implementing policies and procedures. Listen to employees and understand, then analyze your way out. Give some time to yourself and you will find yourself in thick of controversies, resentment, opposition and then gradually acceptance and agreement which you can later upgrade to leadership and command from an HR......Rgrds SS

Dear Anjana Ji
Do you want a good relation with all because your boss has ordered it or you want it?
Firstly own it, then think what all things you do to make someone happy at your house? to do friendship with someone? to make-up your friend's mood who is upset at your behaviour?
Let me put it this way.... WHO WANTS THE RELATION...'you' right!!!!
so do it!!!!!!
things which we will suggest will not help you much as you don't stand for it and would do half heartedly. So, do what your heart says!
best of luck!!!!!

Hi Anjana,
Entertainment programs, field trips are all common, but definitely a very important factor.
Anjana, I would suggest you to parallely understand what are the HR practices being followed at companies which are in the same business line as yours. Your activities must be in-line with your business and that's the fact.
Set up forums on ongoing Work plans, strategies, employee issues, etc during when you can club birthday celebrations, etc.
Since the employee strength is 30, it should be easier to get to know them personally, so get to know personally one by one and try to remember the uniqueness of each individual. Need not necessarily be what they are talented in. Can be something like, one person has a naughty kid, one person has a stunning beard, the other has a good bike/car. So that you can get to chat with them once in a while on stuff like this, which inturn could give a personal recognition feel.
All the best

Hi.
1.start celebrating birth days of employees by exhibiting birth day greetings on notice board and some sweets to employees
2.Arrange some games like, carom board, chess etc and also conduct some competitions in story/poems/painting etc.
3. Organize a one day trip without much cost, but with active participation--- food can be brought by employees on a sharing basis, and do dine together outside.\
4.Organize some motivation classes on a monthly/qly basis.
5,Conduct some quiz/music evenings on a weekly/biweekly basis
think about anything new which normally people will appreciate and would like to involve.
you can succeed
Regards and best wishes

Dear Anjana,

You may first collect all the emp. personal info. eg. B'days, DOJ- Date of Joining, sending greeting mails to them. Any week end, if possibly try to arrange for a movie tickets for the staff. If not possible show them entertaining movie at office itself. so that they can feel relax. Arrange office internal meet, discuss with their routine official problem and assured to solve within short period of time. For marketing/sales staff - award system with gift/memento, encourage them..
