Hi Fellow trainers and aspiring trainers,

I am Gourav Mahajan, a soft skills trainer working in HCL Infosystems, I have also worked in New Horizons. I have around 4 years of experience in training. I started my career as a technical trainer, but after giving a small session on soft skills, I developed great interest in soft skills and since then I am enjoying my work as a soft skills trainer.

My experience in comparisons to many great experienced trainers is very less, and I strengthen the fact that I am always in a learning mode being a curious human and a trainer. I would also like to mention in here that I don't carry any certification in my kitty, and my experience is the only thing which is taking me places.

I have trained students, professionals from IT and retail sector all over India, and I hope I have done fairly well and planning to improve my performance by learning more in this field.

I would like to thank Mr. Jayaraman and Vidyut to strengthen my belief, that it's all about passion and our urge to learn new concepts to become a successful and most important a satisfied trainer.

I would like to ask few questions being a relatively new trainer in this field, that as I don't have any certification, is it anyhow hindering my professional growth in this field?

And if YES, then could you please suggest me some certification program, which I can go for without taking much time from my work.

Apart from all this, I would like to add that I have heard a lot about CPBA program and I am keen to know more about it. Is there any institute in India, which gives this certification?

I am sorry for this long post, but i just wanted to clear all my doubts in one post, as i hardly get time to sit on internet... :-P

Hi All,
I favour your reply and advice regarding Training & Developemnt aspirations and ambitions, a person yearns to take up as one's profession. What i believe is you need to understand your own psychology and behavioural aspects in regards to individual and the team (group dynamics) in order to pursue your goal that will help you to attain the purpose, whether it is short term or your life's mission.
I have been working in HR since last 5 Yrs and realized that your performance is driven by the purpose behind it. Skills are just the tools which you teach and learn but to help the participant to understand and realize their ultimate purpose as most of us are working just to earn livelihood whether it is just surviving or having a decent lifestyle. Please help and mentor them to analyse and decide the goal, the strong purpose, what they have to achieve and take it religiously.
Wish you all the best future Trainers rather facilitators !!

Hi Vidya!
This world of learning and development is huge and within soft skills as well you have a lot of narrow aspects. Typically trainers who do well are specialist in a particular narrow field. Your experience would help you chose the narrow field. You could also speak with people to help you decide further.
The decisions that you would need to make before deciding on a career in Training are as follows:
1. Which area of specialization would you intend to work in?
2. What level of audience would you want to train?
3. Do you have the skills/knowledge required for the same?
4. Would you need any certifications to equip you handle such programs?
Once you have asked yourself these questions and got answers for most of them, you would be on your way to becoming a trainer of great repute.
Do let me know if there is anything else I may assist you with.
Regards,
Rohan
