Dear Amrish,

Policies are made by the HR, Finance and the Marketing Personnel and got approved from the top management and the Board level should not be expected to frame micro-level policies. Managers are recruited to become the eyes, arms and brain of the top management. You can expect macro level broad policies from the top and not the micro level ones. In fact unless the managers show some initiative, no policy can be framed and the company can drown any time like a sinking ship.

You people collectively need to show some initiative, do some work that is not of generalist type and try to make your place of honour in the eyes of the top management. Come up with some policy, bring out the proposal for delegation of power, not only for yourself, but also for your other colleagues by convincing the top management that delegation can ease them of their heavily centralised responsibilities.

Since, you can face this situation in most of the companies you try to get posted, would you try to flee away from all such positions every time? You have to do some challenging jobs of streamlining the processes and powers to enrich your CV with your achievements, by not merely getting satisfied with your general duties of drowning in to the CVs of applicants for recruitment, postings and transfers of incumbents, isue of leave memos, etc.

Don't get dishearten. Make some efforts to get some place of honour within the same company unless you get some better opportunity. When you are able to show your worth the top company management itself would feel pride in delegating good powers to you. Ultimately you can win laurels and fame and would be labelled as an efficient manager that any company would get ready to offer you some better position of honour and dignity.

No organisation can succeed in isolation. Mistakes are made and hidden if one wants to rise from the ashes, as it were! If the organisation you speak about has rectified its mistake and come to suceess, what more can be expected. There are companies still wallowing in their mistakes unmindful of the harms it can cause to the general public. Take the example of thousands of fake drug companies and badly manufactured electrical spares and fittings.

You will find many examples of Auto companies, for eg TATA if i recall had some adverse problems initially with the TATA INDICA. It had to fit a mechanical kit into its engine to sove the problem. The company recalled all INDICA cars to the tata workshops and fitted the kits free of cost.
This is more of an operational/technical snag detected and resolved. Just look out for the policy related problems and thier rectifications. Incase I recal some policy or strategic examples of companies i will get back
