My suggession is as follows:
During night shift try to keep a mix of people from the same area and also try to keep (if possible) male:female ratio 1:2 and ask the driver to first pick all male staff who are supposed to work that night from that area and then to pick the female staff.
Ask your female staff not to board cab unless there is a male employee (no matter what the situation is-Safety of employee is paramount).
Also, if possible try to introduce tele confirmation as to all have boarded the cab or not before they finally leave for office.
I dont know how much practical these suggessions are considering circumstances at your end but i think it may give you a direction to think.

Nilendra

Hi Nilendra,
I accept your suggestion. but how far its going to work .
These cab drivers are so clever these days.
They come up with different tactics and spoil people's minds and end up in all problems.
Did you actually understand what exactly the driver of this pune case did?
so, where is the solution?
Many solutions comes and keeps coming but it keeps happening in other sectors too!!!!!

All processes in place, we need to ensure that safety is NOT a one way lane.
It needs to be extended along both paths ...meaning the onus for safety needs to come from not only the organization but also from the women themselves.
They need to be trained to defend themselves, stay alert and think on their feet.
The corporates alone despite having to ensure complete safety might not always be able to do ensure ideal individual safety as they have thousands of employees. It needs to be shared voluntarily by the individuals themselves through increasing awareness, learning and practicing self defense techniques and hence doubling, tripling or quadrupling their safety and security.
Just an observation!
Thanks,
Madhu

You ask your female employee only to entre cab if there is a male member. Also ask the male members to take the onus and care for the safety of the employee. It has to be both ways. Female will also have to be utmost cautious about their safety.

Keep the mobile nos. of all employee of your organization and share it will all staff. Also give the schedule of shift arrangement atleast two days in advance and ask all employees to be in touch with each other during boarding the cab.

Under no circumstances a girl should be asked to board a cab alone. A girl should also be concerned about her own safety.

You have to take strict measures coz there is no margin of error as in all probablity it will lead to rape/murder and both are uncompromising.

So, I suggest you to take these kind of actions. See if it works. If you face practical difficulty then we will think of some more measures.

At first you call a meeting for all employee and make them aware of such situation and also ask them to help you to cure these situations by discussing measure we have discussed. I have every hope that they will themselves come up with still better situation.

For more discussion you can call me at 9831000509. I will be more than happy to help you out.

Hi,

We too have night shifts over here in office and female employees are well there. And obviously there is a matter of concern regarding their security while travelling and in office too. But we have created a kind of secured environment and we encourage employee participation in making the workplace a most secure place for the female employees. we have implemented below mentioned activities. Please have a look & i think you will get a way out to handle this kind of situation...

* Ensure a security guard along with the driver of the cab if the last employee to be dropped is a lady. And ensure a security guard in every cab.

* connect the cabs with intercom.

* change the drivers of the cabs on a daily basis so that they don't get a plan in their mind.

* Share the emergency contact numbers and the cab numbers with the local police.

* call & greet ( surprise call) your female employees while they are in cabs & travelling.

* meet the female employees very often to break the ice if anything is wrong with them.

* Encourage them to speak up.

* Ask ownership from their male counter parts for a week and so.

These are few cases to handle the cab issues which causes a chaos.rest i think everybody can handle easily.

Thanks

well Again if you all remember
security guards have also been accomplice in such situations therefore i wont suggest it.
I will repeat again that a female employee should be the last one to be picked. Atleast there should me one male employee already in the cab and should be the fist one to be dropped.
Also i repeat educate female employee to care for their safety as well.
Now i think its Trisha's turn to write on the suggessions we have given to her.
Hello Trisha.....where are you!!!!!

Hi Friends,

Yes you have given different suggestions, if you can club it will work for sure only thing is we need to keep a close eye on some of the things like is the cab driver the same, what is his background and i would suggest to keep changing the driver very often which might be little difficult but for sure it will help you from driver not becoming familiar to your employees and their activities.

While coming to Woman employees i would suggest hire them if they are ready to work in night shift or try to keep the woman strength as less as possible depending on the requirement of woman staff for other shifts. And you should ensure that female employee should not be the first person to be picked or last to be dropped as mentioned by our friend Nilendra. Hope fully this things will definitely help you to have more peaceful nights. But what ever is the measure we take to solve this problem we need to have a close watch on things happening. I hope you people will agree with me.

You would also have observed the recent pune incident sparking alarm signals among the women, but in todays condition it doesnt matter as long as security is tightened. IT can be done by increasing more women accomplice in a single van.
It is also advisable to check that the women staying in a same place or hostel are picked up so that the last drop problem doesnt arise.
Self defense is the best one ultimately
