Dear Rashi
I welcome you to CiteHR - a Global Community For Human Resource Managers.
Since you have stated your preference for HR, but you have worked in Marketing/Sales assignment; initially you may try for the "Business Development" roles (BDE, BDM) in big HR Consultancies like Ma Foi, ABC Consultants, Manpower etc. You can leverage on your experience and competencies during the Interview. Though BD is a gruelling assignment.
Alternatively, you can also try for Corporate Service functions in consultancies like Accenture, Ernst & Young, and other IT & S/W companies too; which are on a hiring spree.
Things are looking up by the day, and I am confident that you"ll get placed well shortly.
Meanwhile, if you wish, you may pursue HR related courses through Distance Mode; e.g. in Training & Development from ISTD.
Warm regards.

Thank you very much for the advise sir...But i am really keen towards the core HR part (ie generalist or recruiter) and not really interested in working for the business development part. Can something be done about it..i resigned from previous company last year.

Dear Rashi,
Since your major is marketing, trying to enter HR where you have professional people in large numbers will make your task daunting. You experience in Citibank should help you get good jobs in companies with marketing thrust. Try telecom, fmcg, food, pharma companies. After getting any entry into some company, depending on the situation you can discuss for your HR head and move to their team if possible.

Sir , 1st of all identify yourself, what actually you wanna do, your talent, interest, skills and capabilities, your career vision & mission. why did you opt marketing as major an HR as minor. Keep it a head in your mind that "Management" is not the profession that is adopted for enjoyment or time pass just earning good outcomes. It is very serious profession that is adopted and done by passion & integrity.Total commitment and devotion, skills & attitude are required to be a successful management professional. If you love numbers & figures, go for finance, if you like to interect with people and convince them persuasively, go for your last field marketing and if u can understand the psychology of different people, then go for HR so gentleman 1st identify yourself.

Hello Rashi,
In my view, if you are an MBA, you can certainly switch from any function to HR. In fact, your stint in sales could benefit you in the HR role as you would have a better business understanding. Suggest you give some details or your contacts and am sure someone would respond.
Take care

Hello Rashi,
Contrary to public opinion and not meaning any disrespect to any seniors, I would suggest you to follow your gut. Everything that you have done in the past will add value to your future role. You can send me your cv at and we will see what can be done.
Just 1 suggestion : Let this be a firm decision and not a wandering thought.
