Dear Naziya,

I am basically an HR professional and now to the general management stream. while i was working as an hr professional i used to be very upset about the bad comments my colleagues used to make about hr department and also about all the funny things that circulates about the hr department activities.

but once i came out of the departmental perspective and looking from a different angle, i now understand that the responsibility for the bad image for hr lies 80% with the hr professionals alone. we ourselves only create unnecessary rules and regulations which otherwise could be avoided and ensured a good life for an employee.

Take this case alone. a new employee is concerned - whatever maybe the reason. we have other tools to verify his claims of salary last drawn. by not insisting on the bank statement, he could be made comfortable also. still we all advising him to give the same. and as a new recruitee, he would be doing so to create a good impression but his impression will be gone with the hr department forever.

i do agree that hr and admin had to do a lot of dirty works in the org. but at the same doing a dirty work or a tough work with the least damage is where our skills should be exercised

else the situation will continue like this forever.

Dear Sunil & Arun,
Arun!! Congrats for a new job!!
I totally agree with you. But I am still confused that why a company has made a policy or clause in induction policy (or by whatever rule) to get bank statement of new recruit. Has anybody asked that org. about its necessity or exact purpose?? I think, if it is a rule to get a bank statement then it is better Arun can himself just produce it for checking the pay amount of that been deposited by previous org. It is still not clear that HR dept. is asking to to get bank statement for his personal file or for their other records. I suggest that to Arun, that it is better you just ask them first that what is the purpose (don't just take it as their rule/policy - GET CELAR IDEA ABOUT IT) and then produce the statement for checking and take it with you. Let me know what is the purpose of org. behind it.

Dear Arun,
I think they are asking bank statement to verify your correct income earned from your previous employer. i would suggest that you can negotiate with them and can provide your salary slip or a salary certificate.

Punit.

Dear Arun,
I think you can go ahead and give your bank statement (if what they are asking is payroll account) for as rightly said by Mr. NSN Murthy, 80% of the people do not have their personal trasanctions from payroll account.
So do not worry about it, go ahead, submit the payroll account statement and get started with your new role / job.
All the best
Julie
