Hi
The monthly wage limit for coverage under the ESI act would be such as prescribed by the central government in the ESI [central] rules, 1950. The existing wage ceiling for coverage [excluding
remuneration for over-time work] is Rs.10000 per month . An
employee who is covered at the beginning of a contribution period shall continue to remain covered till the end of that contribution period notwithstanding the fact that his wages may exceed the prescribed wage ceiling at any time after the commencement of that contribution period. Wage ceiling for purpose of coverage is revised from time to time by the central government on the specific recommendation of the corporation, at present it has been increased to rupees 10000

Friends,
Please note the following in regards to this query:
1. The onus and accountability of implementation of Labour Law is on the employer - whether or not you receive the intimation through Gazette.
2. The ESI wage limit has been increase w.e.f. 01st October so that we can take appropriate action in advcance - i.e. before the start of the contribution period
3. There are two contribution periods - April to September and other is October to March. For an employee whose ESI contribution is being deducted and the later the wage are increased in middle of the contribution period, then the deductions and the contribution from the employer should continues till the end of the contribution period.
Ex: if employee is earning 7400 and salary increase to 12000, still ESI deduction shall be on al of 12000.
I hope this make things easier to understand

Hi,
Very clearly ,what i meant is that, during a given contribution period, even if the wages increase, the contribution shall continue till the completion of that period irrespective of the increase and the ceiling will be 10,000(the max limit)

Dear
ESI has to be covered no doubt upto 31st March 2007 upon Rs.10500/ .
Because the raise in the middle of the contribution period, though crosses the Ceiling amount of Rs.10000/, the wages to be taken in toto till 31st March,2007.
