Debora:
we can compensate the days an employee worked on weenends/Holidays and as well we can give them the Food expenses as well
if depends on the company policies; have a look at your company policies and work on it
Thanks

You can formulate a policy on compensatory off whereby you can give the employee a days off within two months time from the day the comp becomes due ...or you pay them overtime ... Anu :D

Hi Deborah,
All are very true, you should prepare a policy regarding the compensatory off, that those who work on holidays can avail that leave within 60 or 90 days after that it will be lapsed..
And only those will be benefited of this, who had come to office because it was required.. otherwise some may misuse of this policy.

Hi Deborah
I just want to add along with Amit that u have to start keeping a record of the same and even you can specify the minimum working hours required. You can add like it should be preplanned as well as approved by the managers.
Hope this will help you.

Dear Deborah,
First of All, have a policy on compensatory off.
Avoid working on National Holidays as working on National Holiday is punishable under Shops & estb. Act for some industries and secondly,
This would also add to resentment among employees.
If it is inevitable to work compensate them handsomely so that they do not crib about working.
In the interest of the organisation, offer a comp. off on a week day rather than clubbing with weekends. This will add to hardship to colleagues working in the dept. and this also leads to setting a precedent.
Hope I have replied to your satisfaction

Dear Deborah,

As my fellow members have mentioned earlier, it depends on the company policy,, For. eg, if you see the extra days working of the people in my company, some people should get atleast some 6 months compensatory off... Many times even myself have worked on almost many weekends, without food and water (from company),,, without compensatory off,, and nothing no overtime,, daily working time ranged from 08 - 12 hrs,,, and its true,,,,

LOOK AT MY JOB PROFILE:::

ORGANISATION;;; A very big multinational company (name withheld)

CONS: Only one weekly off, that too friday,, not on sunday,,

working hrs range from 08-12 hrs,,,

no transportation,, in the night at 12.00 clock also you have to manage to go home on your own in one piece,, company is situated outskirts of city on highway where rash driving is prevalent in night,, and is risky. Environment is dull.... no life,,, only work work work and frustration among all employees..

PROS: Canteen facilities, I had privilage of taking leaves as I wished ,,, and no deduction from salary, as i was in hr and handling all time data of all all employees in sap.. , + free telephone facility ,,, including STD, + free printer facility....

SO UR ATLEAST CONCERNED ABT EMPLOYEES AND BOTHERED TO ASK WHAT TO GIVE THEM FOR WORKING ON WEEKENDS<<<

The Number of Hours that you can work is 48 In a wk.
Now The ID Act says that You Should get at Least One Holiday once a Wk or once in Seven days which is usually a Sunday.
Now If there falls a Holiday Say on Tuesday Then the roster or the Shift Can be changed but The Holiday cannot be Denied. Instead od Sunday Tuesday will become a Holiday and Sunday Becomes the Working Day.
Hope That Answers Your Question !

Dear Debora,
there are two ways to compesate your employees for working on saturday/ sunday or on national holidays:
1. By Making holiday payment:
Ammount of hliday Payment= (Basic pay+ Dearness allowance)/ 30
2. By offering Compessionatory Rest ( CR) for each day.
I hope this may help you to frame the policy.
