Hi,
My name is Chaitali. My question to all the resected seniors is that, why inspite of handling the complete HR functions alone for almost 5 yrs in a jewellery manufacturing firm unable to find a good job elsewhere? Just becoz I have experience in a manufactring industry and not in IT? An HR is an HR no matter in what type of industry he/she works but an HR of a factory wll possess same kind of knowledge with that of an IT? Why this diff without judging the person abilities, skills, knowledge, etc?
My factory has been closed last week but still couldnt fins a good job just becoz I have exp in manufacturing unit.
If possible please guide me. Unable to find the answer by myself.

I agree with your observations.
An HR works with human beings; so it should not matter in which sector he has experience in.
It is correct that the profile of the employee changes with sectors in which they are employed; however a good HR professional who i adept at dealing with human beings, should be equally successful in any sector.
However, somehow the employers have this HR myopia,that if an HR has worked in say, manufacturing sector which mainly employ blue-collar workers, he will not be adept at dealing with white-collar workers or knowledge-workers. Also they think that an HR will not be able to adjust to the different job-requirements and needs of the organization.
It is a popular myth, that needs to be dispelled.

I agree with Mr. Rajkumar and also would like to quote few examples of how individuals are demoralised...I heard from a friend who has done her MBA(HR) and when ever she appeared for an interview...all irrelevant questions were asked like..why she didnt score a good marks..what was the reason...does she have any experience in payroll..even after stating very clearly that she is a fresher and also called for interview...being good HR professional, definitely they might have screened the application for all such details and when the candidate is not upto the expectations, should not be called for interview...or give them a chance to explore the abilities....
I may be sounding little emotional but truth..
For me the self confidence of an individual can do wonders when used in a right way...

Hi, Chaitali,
It is not that by working in a jewellery manufacturing firm inspite of handling the complete HR functions, you will be denied job elsewhere. May be the size of your organisation, and your exact role may be the deciding the factor. Also It is not clear how well your resume is written to attract the prospective employers. It is required a bit of selling of yourself in terms your strength, multi tasking, working under preassure, your competency in knowing latest HR practices, will go a long way to impress the employers.
Again, you must not ovserstate your skill. Just say what you are capable of in light of your personal traits, academic skills, work experience etc.

Its primarily because of cultural atmosphere of the different companies,they prefer their own phylum HR employees.

Dear Chaitali,
I agree with everyone's opinion. We cannot change the views of any potential employer. In IT and Service sector your clients are more polished; but in manufacturing sector they may be a bit more rustic. Try to get a break in any sector. Do not compare your present emoluments with the new offer. You are only looking for a launching pad. One you settle in the new environment , you can look for a better break.

Every employer has their own perception.And as an HR person we cannot change their mind. But trust me wherever we go we'll rock, coz we are in a toughest job where we are dealing with human mind & heart.
The toughest job need tough time. You are gonna get a job. So donot loose ur heart.
Even after 9 yrs of hard core HR in Engg & IT companies and 1 yr of complete break, I changed to 100% EOU.

as all of our friends are right, HR practices remain same but u need to put in some innovations in to it according to the field you want to go in. it seems that you want to go for an IT field, therefore i suggest you analyize the latest trends going around in the pirticular field and try to reframe ur resume accordingly...... i am sure things will work out this way coz i think you are putting the same old resume of yours to cource...therfore little updations in resume is what i suggest you now...

Hi,This is the basic problem of the Industry set ups, I am working with a person who came out of IT Industry and joined to maintain the Blue collar workers, though he is deputed as Admin Manager, i understand from him that any one can work in any industry if his basic attitude is there to work, apart from this, the employer should also consider such kind of cross section industries person may do better.
