It is not that all employers restrict candidates 50 years and above but there are some employers who are specific about this.
For senior level assignments like GM/Vice Presidents still experienced candidates aged 50 & above are considered.
There are some employers who have notions like
1) Beyond 50 physical fitness might not be there.
2) They will not be able to stretch and work due to work requirement
3) They will not be able to mingle with less age group employees which will have impact on work
4) Their salary expectations will be more due to high experience.
The above are some prominent reasons as per my observation.
