I agree casual workers get affected by this move. And in general managements of manufacturing set ups do not tend to give two day offs. Venkata Vamsi Krishna

Working 5 days a week may not be a good proposal for manufacturing industry. Because industry needs to utilise its men and machinery to the best possible to get the returns on investment. And even from the productivity point of view, it may not be right time to introduce 5 days working all over the nation at this juncture.
Only few industries can take this opportunity, as others have to work on Saturday/Sunday to cater this people who are on leave ( service industry personnel)

Dear colleague,
In my view , straight-jacketed application across all sectors ie mfg, service , BPO, hospitality etc for 5day week working will not only be impracticable but also unacceptable. It should be left to the choice of individual companies where it is workable. There are several issues from all stakeholders ie employer, employees, unions, government etc relating to productivity/ service efficiency, wages, work life balance etc which will be at cross- purposes.

I've seen many people involved in this discussion stating that it is not practical to have 5 days a week work culture in a manufacturing industry. WHY NOT??? I've seen a statement regarding the ROI for the machinery in a manufacturing industry. So, is that the manufacturing companies in Europe & US will have a slow rate of ROI than in India??Come on.. Its just strange. I am working in a Swiss company. Both our Swiss HQ & Indian plant use the same machines. They operate for 5 days a week & we in India operate for 6 days a week. So its obvious that this is not linked with Return of Investment or any other reason. Its just our mindset, that companies in India should work 6 days a week. Nothing else.Have seen many manufacturing companies in India itself, working for 5 days a week providing its employees a good refreshing weekend. I strongly feel that 5 days a week work culture will definitely rejuvenate the employees in manufacturing industry. They will feel fresh while coming for the work on Monday.Had seen someone saying with 5 days a week work culture bachelor employees may suffer with undefined way of life. Just want to make a point that, with just 1 day off , a bachelor employee will finish off his off day with his weekend house hold activities like cleaning, washing etc etc... Where is the time for him/her to take rest & release his fatigue of past week's hectic 6 days work.I am just writing because I had been through all these phases & I am from a manufacturing industry.Had worked with companies operating for 5 days a week & as well as 6 days a week. I could really really feel the difference of both.
