I have a relieving letter from a person who, according to the letter, is relieved on a Saturday, which is a holiday or off day in that company.

Can anyone be relieved of duties on a non-working day upon resignation?

In other words, can a non-working day be his or her last working day in that company?

Hi, a relieving date should be on a working day and not on a holiday. However, if Saturday is a weekly off, but due to work exigencies the company operates with partial manpower, then there is nothing wrong with relieving on that day.

If Saturday is observed by your company as a Holiday/Off day, the employee shoud have been relieved by the day prerceeding to Saturday that is, Friday.

In the case I have referred to, there is no question of alignment with the notice period and no other considerations. It seems the person concerned has tried to tamper with the date in the document, which was actually the 24th (Saturday), to obtain certain monetary benefits from another person. Their office works only 5 days a week, i.e., Monday to Friday. As per normal procedure, employees are relieved at the close of business on a working day. No employee can be relieved on resignation on a non-working day.

An employee of BNP Paribas India Solutions Pvt Ltd cannot be relieved on a Saturday (a day off or non-working day for the company) upon resignation. There is no question of alignment with the notice period.
