Registration of Contractual Laborers under PF & ESI Act

An establishment is registered under both the PF & ESI Act. My question is whether it is required to register a contractual laborer who works for only a few days and is then replaced by another laborer, similar to the first.

Coverage of Contractual Workers Under PF and ESI

If the establishment is covered under both the PF & ESI, then any contractual workers, irrespective of the number of days worked, must be covered under both PF & ESI.

Importance of ESI

ESI is very important in case of any accident. For a short duration of 1/2 days, one may take the risk to avoid PF, but for a long duration, it is a must. When the concerned worker is not available, instead of striking down his name, show him as earning 0. For long non-availability, mark an exit for the employee.
