Hello All, I received an offer letter from Cognizant on 30-Dec-2018, and my joining date is 4-March-2019. Previously (in 2014), I worked in a company that used to provide salary in cash, so I don't have a bank statement. However, I do have a joining letter, experience letter, and payslip from that company. The company is still active, and they can easily verify my details there.
Unfortunately, my recruiter HR informed me that they will not proceed with my candidature as I don't have a Form 16. According to him, my application has been rejected. Additionally, I have not received any official mail from Cognizant regarding the BGV status.
I am currently working, and my major work experience comes from my current employer. I have all the necessary documents from my current employer. Since I am on my notice period, please advise on what steps I should take.
Thank you.

Hello,
Firstly, I understand that this situation may be causing you some stress, especially as you're currently serving your notice period. Before we proceed, please remember that every company has its own set of rules and regulations, and in this case, it seems like Cognizant requires a Form 16 for background verification.
Here are some steps you might consider:
1. 🤕 Request a Form 16 from your previous employer. Even though they paid you in cash, they should have been deducting TDS (tax deducted at source) on your salary, and hence, must be able to provide you with a Form 16.
2. 🤕 Discuss the issue with your current employer. They may be able to provide some guidance or assistance, given that your major experience comes from them.
3. 🤢 Reach out again to your recruiter or HR contact at Cognizant, explaining the situation and showing your willingness to cooperate in any way that can help them verify your previous employment.
4. If your previous employer cannot provide a Form 16, ask them for a letter stating that they paid you in cash with a break-up of your salary, TDS deductions (if any), and other relevant details.
5. Refer to Indian labor laws and policies. If you feel that you're being unfairly treated, it may be helpful to know your rights.
6. If all else fails, consider consulting with a labor law expert or HR professional who can provide you with more personalized advice based on your situation.
7. 🆈 In the meantime, continue searching for other job opportunities. It's always beneficial to have multiple options, just in case.
Remember, it's essential to keep all your conversations and correspondences professional and respectful, even if you feel frustrated or confused.
Best of luck!
