Labor or employment-related laws are numerous, and only a few apply to or cover industrial undertakings (commonly known as factories), while others apply to commercial establishments. For example, the Factories Act and Rules vis-a-vis the Shops and Establishment Act and Rules.
In respect of this group of laws, certain "exemptions" can be sought and secured for the period specified by the authorities. Additionally, there is a new law that applies to and covers every workplace and employer in India, namely the "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013."
