Dear Friends,

Since I am pursuing higher studies and as per the curriculum requirements, I am supposed to conduct research in any field. Given my interest in management, particularly in HR, I would like to conduct a survey on a latest topic related to management. Kindly suggest a topic for me.

Regards,
Daniel

Though your question doesn't indicate any specific area of interest and is quite broad, I would suggest the following based on what I find to be an interesting study:

1) Effectiveness of talent management in companies with high attrition rates.
2) Comparison of labor laws and policies between a developed and a developing economy.
3) Remuneration trends in various sectors.
4) Collective bargaining as a tool: How effective is it?
5) Effectiveness of international trade unions.
6) Human resources as a business partner: Fad or fact?

Best regards.

Dear Daniel,

The above topics suggested by other friends seem to be good. However, if you are conducting a survey, the following points can be of some use:

1. Attrition trends in industries - which type of people are moving out, people with how many years of experience are leaving, which departments are experiencing losses, which industries are losing talent to others, qualifications, age groups, levels (officer, manager, GM, etc.), total years of experience of those leaving, and years of experience within the company of those exiting. This should provide a comprehensive idea.

2. Training - Identifying the types of training required for different staff categories, evaluating training effectiveness, etc.

3. Types of Performance Management Systems (PMS) followed in various industries, weightages assigned to different parameters, and the impact of company values and ethics.

I hope this sheds some light on the matter.

Hi Daniel,

The above-mentioned topic is very good. I can suggest some more. If you want to focus on the manufacturing sector, you can conduct a survey to compare inbound and outbound training programs. In the IT sector, you can explore the attrition rate through a survey.

Hi there,

Research makes sense when there is a need for it. Firstly, look for the key problems faced by professionals. Then, come up with solutions to them. That's how your research will make more sense and will have higher acceptance.

Advice: Be proactive in your approach; this will make your research more popular.
