Dear Friends,

I need to clarify a basic compliance of an organization. Is a payslip mandatory to be provided to the employees? Who has to process this (Accounts Team or HR [responsible])? Can this be optional for a company? Kindly reply ASAP.

We do issue Form 16 and get the signatures for the credit of salary in the register, wherein the employees could be aware of the calculations, etc.

When we receive a request for the payslip for loan processing, credit card, etc., we would issue a salary certificate. Otherwise, we would ask the recipient to call us directly for confirmation of the details. Is this correct?

Dear Pushparaj A.,

The issuance of wage slips is mandatory under the Minimum Wages Act of 1948. If the establishment is covered by this Act, wage slips must be provided to employees a day before the wages are disbursed. These wage slips should be signed by the pay-in charge. The responsibility for issuing these slips should be overseen by the HR department as it pertains to the implementation of labor laws.
