I would like to know, How can we control the eating and spiting of gutka/tobacco in plant premises. I we fine the workers if they seen carrying,chewing and spiting the gutka,tobacco in plant premises. Presently we are screening the at the security entry gate and recovering the material but it does not solving the problem, is there any stringent measure we can implement to curb/ eradicate this menance.

Do you think prohibiting this will help you to have more productivity & lesser rejection? Why do you want to do this. I have observed that most of the workers do this because of addiction & prohibiting the same will reduce the productivity. Rather than why do't you make provision for Spittoons?

If you come under the purview of Factories Act, there are provisions for disciplinary action against such violations. We are a food processing industry and have successfully implemented zero tolerance for all kinds of tobacco products in our factory premises.

For cleanliness and hygiene, it is a good idea to ban the consumption of Gutka and Tobacco products.
Provision of spitoons is not a good idea. First they are very difficult to maintain and clean. Second, who will clean it ?

If you are checking at the gate, and fining people for being found carrying it, why has the use and incidence not fallen ?
How are these getting into the factory then ?
You need to educate the workers and also train the supervisors to stop this practice.
If possible, get the unions on your side.
Its a long term fight in every company.

checking at gate and recovering of items from individual possession and forwarding name to Hr dept for fine and disciplinary action shown good result, worker use lots of tricks to concealed these item as addiction perforce them to do so, it takes little more time to frisk them, How ever,
the no of people bringing this items has been considerably depleted since the checking drive started and intensified last month. I am planning to give some awareness about the ill effect of consumption of Gutka and tobacco items. Please provide power point presentation if some one have. Is there any NGO which can help us out to educate on this subject to workers.
