I am sure Bad Habits of Recruiter will be enjoyed more by candidates & pretty less by my recruiter friends. Like everyone recruiter too develops few bad habits which spoil our relationship with clients & candidates. Job of recruiter is not an easy task to get in. we are always at a receiving end. Being a recruiter you are always surrounded by targets, unrealistic expectation, phone calls, emails, meetings, interviews, back outs, negotiations. Working round a clock to perform better & to meet their targets recruiter tends to develop some bad habits unknowingly.

Today let us discuss on those habits which spoils the efficiency & brand name of recruiter. Your contacts start losing trust. Our clients start feeling that we have plenty of other important assignments and they start looking for some new recruiters. Slowly this bad habit takes control of us and ruins our professional life. A new recruiter makes different types of mistakes they rectify some and they redo some mistakes. These repeated mistakes turn into bad habits and by the time we become experienced recruiter, our experience with bad habits also grows.

It is always advisable to keep bad habits away. Certainly you must try to keep distance with such habits which has a potential to ruin your career. I personally believe a man with zero bad habits is a myth. We can at least try to get rid of these habits and excel in our career. Let us see what mistakes a Recruiter does:

Start to seek permission: Recruitment is all about communication. Phone is a best friend of every recruiter. Recruiter spends most of his time on phone, interacting with candidates & clients. You are expected to make end number of calls every day. When you call the candidates for describing some job profile or for scheduling their interview, you forget to seek their permission for having discussion. As soon as the candidate answers your call, you directly come to the point of discussion without knowing if the candidate is in a position to address all your questions. You forget candidate can also be busy and you might be disturbing them with your calls. So next time when you call try to understand first if your candidates or client is free to have discussion. If they are busy you can take there availability for having telecon.

Stop calling candidates every time: Sometimes recruiter calls candidates continuously. There can be some important reason as well for calling candidates similarly there can be some important reason with candidates as well for not answering the calls. You try calling candidate and if he didn’t answers you keep on calling him unless he answers you with rude comments and disconnect the calls without even listening to you. If it’s urgent and candidate is not answering your calls, you can simply put a text and email him the purpose of call and you can request him to call back. If candidate is genuine he will definitely get in touch with you at the earliest.
