Dear Sandeep,

One of the logical reasons, in my opinion, is that all safety-related equipment and documents adhere to global standards. Since English is widely accepted for both printed materials and communication purposes, it is essential for workers to be proficient in the English language. Safety regulations and standards are disseminated globally with widespread acceptance.

Dear Sandeep,

English, that is the global mantra for success. Even the person who is wiser in knowledge has to be exposed to receive the rewards. For that, English is important. Around the world, nearly 1 lakh languages are used by people. Your thoughts have to reach all, which means the common language required is English.

We know the British ruled all around the world. They gifted nothing but the language, so English is the medium of global communication.

Basic English Speaking Course is meant for those who do not know even the basics. So here are the five reasons from a safety point of view:

One - Safety first: They should read and understand the safety rules.

Two - Most of the offices use English for verbal and written communication, so they should know how to differentiate between "should" and "should not."

Three - It is a global language, and since a majority of our jobs are dependent on outsourcing, we better know what is good.

Four - Why not? Knowing another language is not going to hurt anyone - safety!

Five - The question is stupid, and if you can understand the writing on the wall, it means that your English is good.

First, learn to spell; it is "EXPLAIN" and not "EXLAIN." At least read your post once before you submit, @sandeepiife :)

What is the duration of the course, Vartika? Based on that, you can decide how much you can cover. If they do not know anything at all, start from scratch. Teach them basic greetings, how to introduce themselves, and directions such as left and right. They can only learn by listening, so no other language should be used in class. If they know how to read and write, ask them to read some news articles in turns and also in their spare time.

Hope this helps.

There are so many English speaking courses nowadays like Russell's and other names in every city. What is important is practice; please try to read more and also listen to the news in English (BBC). The Hindu and the Reader's Digest are considered good reading material in English.

Reasons for Providing Basic English Courses to Employees

Employees need a basic English course for several reasons:

• Most of the safety instructions are in English.

• Their efficiency would increase as they would be able to understand official communication faster and more accurately.

• Their loyalty to the company would increase if the company helps them in their career growth through an English-speaking program.

• The level of professionalism would go up.

These reasons alone are compelling for smart managers to decide to provide an English communication training program for their staff.

I found this thread quite interesting. Can you please let me know the source of this need? From where does such a need or thought come to your mind where you are correlating safety with an English-speaking course? I thought of writing more, but I am just waiting for a response from your side to understand my views.

Thank you.
