Hi group members,

I am facing a problem these days within my company. My management is very strict regarding the employees' increment and employee welfare as a whole. I have been working here for 8 months now, and there is no scope for any improvement here. There is no philosophy called an increment here.

I am really upset and depressed and want to change my existing job. I request help in finding a job in Delhi itself. I want to be located here in Delhi itself.

Please help me. Waiting for your replies...

Thanks,
Prachi

Hi Prachi,

It is very sad to understand such things from your post. I am sure as an HR person, you have contacts with good Manpower Consultants there in Delhi. Get in touch with them immediately.

In fact, I am sure you will be getting a good quality HR job sooner than you anticipate in Delhi since the recent statistics say that Delhi and Pune are the two regions in India where the HR industry is booming, and there is a great demand for HR professionals in these two cities.

All the very best! In case you need any consultant contacts, do let me know. I will help you out.

Dear Prachi,

If no increment is the philosophy of your company and you have decided to leave the job if you get a better one, please don't upset yourself with future uncertainties. I would like to know if you have ever discussed the matter with your higher authorities regarding your results. If not, do it in a very polite manner, expressing your concerns for self-satisfaction and development.

Prachi,

Though a bit upset to read your mail. Can you tell me what is your total experience? Do you mean to say that no one in your present company gets promotions or increments? That is practically impossible. Are you an MBA? What are your career aspirations? What type of growth are you looking for? Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years? It is easy to get a job... no doubt you can find one soon. But it is important to understand what you are actually looking for in your career and profession.

Dear Prachi,

It is surprising and painful to understand that there is no increment or promotions awarded, yet the company has recruited an HR personnel.

There is something amiss here. Please find out the exact status - maybe the company might not have a performance appraisal system, but without an increment... doubtful.

In that case, what about the existing employees who have joined earlier than you? Haven't their salaries been revised? Please check and get it confirmed.

Furthermore, if there is no increment policy, why don't you propose one with an emphasis that the company has to have an increment and promotional policy, which will certainly be required for the growth of the organization and the employees.

As an HR professional, please see the positive side of everything, overcome obstacles, and sail through the difficult phase rather than quitting the job. If you cannot get the right things done, someday somebody has to and will do it. Why not let that somebody be you and that someday be today?

Cheer up, good luck, and all the best to you.

Prachi,

From your few lines, it is hard to assess the real nature of your situation. Before you make a change in your job, think hard. This could be the challenge that can turn your career for the better. As I said, it is difficult to give you quality advice without knowing more about your organization and whether this predicament of yours is indicative of an 'anti-employee' attitude overall. Even if that is the case, you have the challenge to make some contribution.

And, by the way, not having an annual increment is not a new phenomenon. In organizations today that are driven by objectives fulfillment, there is a chance one or all individuals may not get an annual raise. The realities of globalization include some of these aspects that India is just beginning to see. But again, I do not know for sure if that is the reason for your company's policy. Think before you jump ship - this could be your moment of reckoning.

Regards,

Lloyd
