Hi,

My name is Ruchi, and I work in a software company as an HR professional. It's campus season right now, and many companies are competing to secure top positions in leading colleges.

When we visit campuses, we usually deliver presentations. How can we ensure that our presentations are effective? What content should be included in the slides we present to the students?

Cheers,
Ruchi

Hi,

So ready to make some careers shine.. Good!!

The topics/aspects that one should consider while making presentations at campus are as below:

a) About the company

- Kindly do not copy/paste the description of the company from the company website as students would have gone through it earlier before attending the session.

b) Growth details

- Elaborate on the growth details, such as the net profit of the company over the last 6 years.
- Awards & achievements.

c) Job profiles available

- This is the main part where students would be interested, so keep it precise and mention the details. If possible, provide handouts of positions & job descriptions.
- Kindly mention what type of people you are looking for. For example, if it is a leadership position, emphasize the need for a team player. If it is Application Support, highlight problem-solving capability.

d) Benefits of employees

- Just make a slide that answers one question: how would it benefit the student if he/she joins the company? (In terms of monetary/HR specifics).

e) Interview details

- Shortlisting criteria.

f) Closing remarks/questions and answer session

- Be ready with a certain set of answers that students would ask you. Because it's all about marketing, you know!

Some other aspects to take care of:

- Presentation should be around 15-20 minutes and give a lot of time for Q&A.
- It basically depends on the type of colleges you are visiting. If it's an IIT/IIM, they would look at the job profile first and then the salary. If it's a B-grade B-school, it would be the other way around.
- Mingle with a bunch of people around so that you can get to know about the communication skills of students and their attitude.
- Get in touch with the placement officer, have details of the top 10 students in the college, or the top 10 students in Oracle/Java papers. This information would be provided to you on special request.

The bottom line is to do your homework... we were also students, remember?

Some decent reasons for considering campus placements...

1) Cost cutting
Obviously,
a) Affordable manpower, i.e., cheaper than the market.
b) Cost of recruitment reduces, i.e., no more search for manpower, no schedules, no meetings.
c) Don't have to pay Naukri or other job sites.

2) Large pool of fresh talent at one place
a) Who have the energy and drive in working, thinking out of the box, as this is their first job.
b) If you can recruit the best talent from campus, the company would gain more in this.

3) Flexibility
a) In terms of doing different projects, as they are startups, they can get into any project.

4) Reference checking
a) Reference checking becomes easy, I mean to get to know the history/work experience of a person.
