Hi all,

This is Irfan. I am pursuing my MBA in Mumbai from N L Dalmia College. I am planning to start an HR forum in my college. We are only 10 students in HR specialization. I would appreciate if anyone can help me decide on the activities to conduct in the forum and how to go about it.

I am new to this forum but I am really impressed by how the HR community helps each other. I expect the same from all of you.

Waiting for your response.

Thank you,
Irfan

Hi, I am Lomesha from Ahmedabad. You mentioned an HR course at your college. Is that a distance learning course? I would like to learn more about distance learning options in HR. If you have any information on this, please do let me know.

Hi Irfan,

Nice thought... It is really a good idea to have a forum to discuss.

First, sound the idea with the other students, those interested in HR as well as those who are not so much interested.

Second, fix up a convenient time for the forum meetings. Once a week is good to begin with, depending upon need and interest, you could make it two or three times per week.

Third, give your HR Forum a name. It should become a serious entity with responsibility holders. A Forum Coordinator, maybe you assume that position to begin with.

Fourth, have the first meeting!! Discuss the purpose of the formation of the Forum. A chat with CHR could help you on that.

Fifth, generate ideas in that meeting regarding what could be done in Forum Meets.

A few suggestions... A topic could be decided, people read up on it on the net, in books, etc., and come to the Forum to discuss it. Try to pick up hot topics, relevant topics, recent topics, techniques, and methodologies for various functions in HR, 360 degrees, BSC, etc.

In case the participation is more than the restricted group of 10 and others are interested, try contacting some HR Managers and ask them to address the forum on some recent hot topic of their choice. Offer them the convenience of timing and good attendance when they come to address.

I guess, this would be a good beginning, and then ideas will start coming automatically from the group.

All the best!

Hi Sh00nya,

Thank you for replying and providing valuable suggestions. I have already planned the meeting and guest lectures. Additionally, I have planned a few activities. In fact, we have even drafted our letterhead. It may seem very ambitious, but we are serious about it.

It would be a great help if you could suggest some activities in a specific manner that we can incorporate into our forum.

Looking forward to your response.

Thank you,
Irfan
