This is an excellent resume for a salesman. Why are you leaving such a good job where you are rewarded based on your performance? You can clearly distinguish your performance quarter by quarter to demand more pay and rewards. Plus, you have sufficient time at your disposal as well as opportunities to travel.

We, HR people, feel like prisoners in the office. Why do you think we are in good shape?

Hi friend,

You can join an MBA, but by the end of the day, if you switch to HR from sales, then you will not get a good salary initially. You will start your career in HR as a fresher. Please think again if you want to switch from your current job. You have to be flexible on your salary; that's for sure.

Hi all,

Where should I pursue my MBA from?
Will an MBA from SMU be beneficial for me?
Or should I consider taking the MAT? (I am already 32, and besides, I am currently in sales with financial difficulties. Doing a full-time MBA and then hunting for a job would require an additional 3 years!)

Thank you.

Hi,

Well, it is a big decision considering your age and career prospects. I think you should reconsider it, keeping in mind your 4 years of experience in Marketing. I believe that pursuing an MBA in Marketing will certainly help you excel and open up new opportunities for you.

However, if you are determined to transition to HR, then consider enrolling in a part-time MBA program while gaining experience in this field. By the time you complete your MBA, you will have 3 years of experience in HR, in addition to holding an MBA degree. This will not only enhance your career prospects but also enable you to provide financial support to your family.

I am not familiar with Sikkim University; I recommend reaching out to some alumni for more insights.

I hope I could be of help. Should you have any further queries, feel free to contact me at rohitvarshney22@gmail.com.

Good luck!

First of all, tell me why are you jumping from sales to HR and from HR to sales again. As I'm working with a pharma company's HR, I will suggest that you either stick to your sales job as it will give you very good financial growth or, as you said you are interested in a house job, then you can simultaneously complete PGDHRM from Symbiosis Centre of Distance Learning, which offers an affordable fee of Rs. 25,000/- for 2 years.

Dear Cap,

I believe Rohit's suggestion would be the best fit for you. At this point in time, pursuing a part-time MBA from Symbiosis and working in an HR role elsewhere will help you achieve your dream in the shortest time possible.

Hi,

You can also do your distance learning MBA from ICFAI. This university has credibility. I am doing my MBA-HR there. You can continue your work and carry on with your studies. It's a flexible MBA, and ICFAI has many centers in Kolkata too.

Bye,
Sraboni

Aarti and Anitha, why are you misleading me?

This is the experience of a Symbiosis distance learning student, which I quote here:

"Some more facts about SCDL:
1. Everyone and anyone does the course - its admission criteria are very low, so an employer does not look at you with high regard.
2. Your market value does not increase, as it has been seen that no one learns or benefits from this course.
3. If you were to work full time, you will learn much more on the job.
4. Although senior professionals in the field have written the course books, the language is so terrible that the entire meanings of sentences often change because of that.
5. The assignments and exams test your English language more than your subject knowledge.
6. The questions are also in incorrect English, which changes the meaning of the question, and therefore the answer.
7. The exams are no better with the similar points of 6. & 7. repeated.
8. In the exam, I was actually asked the following question: "Teams are sometimes shady": True ___ False ___
Some of the assignment questions:
Question: Organizing does not facilitate the smooth functioning of the organization. Correct Answer: False
Question: Collective bargaining is primarily used for how many purposes? Correct Answer: 2
What are you trying to judge in these questions?!?! Can you believe asking such senseless questions in a postgraduate exam? Or a "so-called MBA?"

9. They are not equipped enough to handle an e-learning course.
10. I wanted to give my online assignments for practice before my exam, and the system kept giving a message - "the system is busy just now. Please try after some time." I tried at 1:00 a.m, 6:00 a.m, 11 a.m, and through the day, and it gave me the same error for 5 days. When I called them, they said - give your assignment in July (my exam was in June) as the system is busy. If they are unable to afford a server that cannot handle such kind of load, they should not have an e-learning program.
11. The week of my exam, the site refused to work, and I couldn't print my admit card. They told me - "you should have printed it earlier." Again, what is the use of having your admit card online, if you have to be at the mercy of their site working?
12. The site is down for maintenance from 2-5 p.m every Wednesday. Who shuts their site down in the middle of the week?! Not only that, from my experience, the site is usually down for over 8-10 hours every Wednesday.
13. At this point in time, I am embarrassed to write this course on my resume, as I feel an employer will think of me as stupid and not smart."

First of all, let me tell you that nobody misleads anybody. It's up to you to make a decision, and as you said, "Everyone and anyone does the course - its admission criteria is very low, so an employer does not look at you with high regard." So let me tell you that:

1. Symbiosis is one of the reputed institutes to study with. Also, even an MBA is pursued by everybody from any institute.
2. Regarding the market value, it won't increase even if you obtain it from a reputed institute. To progress, you need focus, talent, and smartness to excel in your career.

You mentioned having financial problems, and that's why we suggested this option to you. The decision is yours. As far as success is concerned, let me share that I am also pursuing PGDHRM from SCDL and working with a reputable pharmaceutical company as an Executive-HR with a very good package. It's up to you in life how you present yourself to the world. Not just the degree, but also intelligence to face the world matters.

Hi,

It seems you have not done your homework properly. You are saying if you do your MBA from ICFAI, you'll have to self-study. Boss, they have coaching classes too, but at an extra cost all over Kolkata. You can avail of them unless you are staying in some remote corner of West Bengal. But if you want an MBA at the same cost of a graduate degree from a Calcutta University, forget it.

Hi Vhemant,

Thanks for suggesting. But where will I get a job as an HR at this age? I am already 31 and only a graduate with experience in sales. I have been trying Naukri, Monster, Jobs.com, etc., but to no avail. I am only getting calls from odd placement consultants about insurance jobs.

Can anyone please tell me what kind of interview I will face if I go for an HR job as a fresher? What skill sets are required? Also, do I need some backing (references) at this age? Do I need some computer programming knowledge or ERP?
