Dear all,

I want to ask one question to you all: how do you decide the method for "performance appraisal"? Are there any special rules that need to be followed when selecting the method for performance appraisal?

Please reply.

Thank you,

Hi!

The best appraisal method should have the following features/characteristics:

1. The system and procedures should eliminate most, if not all, of the problems (e.g., favoritism, subjectivity, bias, etc.) encountered in appraisals.

2. The performance factors and outputs required should be determined and agreed upon by both the superior and the employee. The factors and outputs listed must be Management by Objectives (MBO) type to eliminate subjectivity.

3. The system should provide an opportunity for employees to be informed about the ratings they receive and be given reasons for such ratings.

4. The system should provide an opportunity for employees to be informed about the areas that require their attention and improvement if they intend to have a long and successful tenure in the company.

5. The results of the appraisal should be linked to recognition, rewards, and/or sanctions.
