While what you are saying is true in a general context, many times it so happens that when one decides definitively what one "can't" do, one decides to focus on what they can do or want to do. When Henry Ford decided for sure that farming was not for him, he left his father's farm and focused on his passion, which was mechanics, ultimately shaping him into who he became. The so-called "can do" attitude has to be used judiciously.
