Hi All,

I am working in a private concern covered under the Factories Act in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In my organization, 2nd October is not considered a holiday, and no comp off/double wage is given in lieu of the same. On speaking to HR, they say this is a common practice in factories across Ahmedabad. Can you please provide me a link that proves that 2nd October is a mandatory holiday in Gujarat state? I have tried searching on the net, but in vain. Please help.

Dear,

As per Standing Order, every organization has to pay 8 days paid holidays in a calendar year. Out of 8, there are 3 national holidays, i.e., 26 Jan, 15 Aug, and 2 Oct. These are mandatory paid holidays. If any person worked on any of these days, the employer has to pay overtime at 2 times the ordinary rate and one day's salary of a paid holiday.

Thanks,

Dear Amit Kumar Tawar Sir,

In Gujarat, under which Act do factories have to provide 8 days of mandatory paid holiday in a calendar year, out of which 3 are national holidays (i.e., 26 Jan, 15 Aug, and 2 Oct)? Please guide us on this matter.

Thank you.
