Employee is called to work on a Weekly off what is to be provided to the employee – Compensatory off or Overtime or both in the state of Tamil Nadu. Can anyone provide any information in regard to this and kindly note that the employee's employment is falling within the purview of TN Shops and Establishments Act.

Example of the Shops & Establishments Act in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
I am giving an example of the Shops & Establishments Act of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana. Most probably, even the Tamil Nadu (TN) Shops & Establishments Act will be on the same lines. In Chapter VIII, Section 37, it states: Wages for overtime work - where any employee in any establishment is required to work overtime, he shall be entitled, in respect of such overtime work, to wages at twice the ordinary rate of wages.
So, if you happen to give compensatory leave, it will not be commensurate with what has been stipulated in the Act. As long as you provide something better than what is required, there should not be an issue.
Thanks and Regards
