Overtime Management in Organizations

Overtime work is always need-based in any organization or establishment. Closely record and monitor for one week to identify positions in which overtime (OT) is "rampant." Remember, under the Factories Act (if applicable to your establishment), there is a limit on OT that is mandatory. Special permission needs to be applied for and obtained if a worker is to be put on OT due to exigencies of work crossing the limit in a quarter.

Check for Underlying Issues

Also, check if your establishment has vacancies in the standard force lying unfilled, or if it is a case of undermanning, underperformance, or weak supervision.

A clear analysis of which category of people are getting OT. How much OT is being done and since when? Are there any changes in the workforce or an increase in orders? Is there any sickness or absenteeism resulting in OT by others? Once the cause is identified, steps can be taken to reduce OT.
