Employer Responsibility for ESIC e-Pehchan Card

Employer responsibility to issue ESIC e-Pehchan card to employees. If an employer fails to issue the e-Pehchan card to employees with the employer's signature on the affixed family photograph of employees, and instead issues only an IP number to all employees, employees can use this IP number to link their Aadhaar card, nominee, and family Aadhaar card number with ESIC through the employee portal (Page Not Found).

Clarification Needed on ESIC Benefits

Now, my doubts are as follows:

(i) Can an employee avail benefits under the ESIC Scheme by providing only the IP number to the hospital?

(ii) Without the e-Pehchan card, can an employee avail benefits under the ESIC Scheme?

(iii) What are the mandatory documents required for employees to avail ESIC benefits for themselves and their families?

(iv) If an employee shows a screenshot page of his and his family's membership enrollment under ESIC (Proof of ESI member downloaded from the employee portal), is it sufficient to avail benefits for himself and his family?

(v) Is it mandatory to affix a family photograph of the employee and to get the employer's signature on the e-Pehchan card? Is this under the rules and regulations of ESIC presently?

(vi) When is the IP number required, and when is the e-Pehchan card required?

Please clarify.

Clarification on ESIC Benefits and Documentation

Now my doubt is as follows:

(i) Can an employee avail benefits under the ESIC Scheme by providing only the IP number to the hospital? No, the e-Pehchan Card is mandatory.

(ii) Without an e-Pehchan card, can an employee avail benefits under the ESIC Scheme? No.

(iii) What are the mandatory documents required for employees to avail ESIC benefits for themselves and their family? Aadhar card linkage only, in line with IP family details.

(iv) If an employee shows a screenshot page of his and his family's membership enrollment under ESIC (Proof of ESI membership downloaded from the employee portal), is it enough to avail benefits for themselves and their family? It can be tried at the ESIC hospital, but there may be some skepticism about the same.

(v) Is it mandatory to affix a family photograph of the employee and to get the employer's signature on the e-Pehchan card? Is this under the rules and regulations of ESIC at present? If the Aadhar card is linked, then the photo is not compulsory.

(vi) When is the IP number required and when is the e-Pehchan card required? Until the IP number is confirmed, the document by e-Pehchan is required.

Update on ESI E Pehchan Card Issuance

Please note that the ESI has stopped issuing the "Pehchan Card" to insured members. Now, the employer must cover the employee under the ESI Act and issue an "ESI E Pehchan" print, duly signed by both the insured person and the employer, along with the company seal. The Aadhaar numbers of the insured person and family members need to be seeded in the portal. When seeking treatment, both the Aadhaar card copy and the ESI E Pehchan print should be carried.

Family photographs are not mandatory due to the linking of the Aadhaar number. If the Aadhaar number is not seeded, a family photograph, duly signed by the employer with the company seal, is required.

If the employer has issued the IP number, then what is the trouble to get the e-pahchan? It can be printed from the member portal also. Signature is mandatory of the employer to ascertain that the IP is still working and contributing in the establishment.

In case of any emergency, the IP would not get barred if the IP has seeded Aadhar. They will issue Form 28 and Form 37 to get it signed from the employer.

In emergency cases, they do accept ESI running letters which can be obtained online. However, it is every employer's responsibility to provide an e-pehachan card with a valid signature on it. If this is not provided, you can seek assistance from workers or union representatives to obtain the card.
