Dear All,

I resigned from my job suddenly without a notice period 2 months ago due to an accident. I informed my boss about my accident and also mentioned that I would like to resign. My boss accepted my resignation and cleared my due payment. The job involves 2 shifts - one week of morning shift and one week of afternoon shift. Now that I have recovered somewhat, I would like to rejoin. However, I can only commit to the fixed morning shift as I am unable to travel at night due to the accident that occurred during that time. I come from a long distance with heavy traffic, making it difficult for me to travel at night. If my boss accepts my request, I would like to rejoin only for the morning shift.

Friends, I need assistance with drafting a letter to my boss on this topic.

Thank you.

Dear Maggi54,

I am sorry to hear about your accident and I wish you a speedy recovery. You mentioned that you wish to rejoin under the condition that your past employer provides you with a morning shift. Have you confirmed if there is a vacancy available? Have they already hired someone to replace you?

Could you please provide details on when the accident occurred, when you resigned, and what your last working day was? What type of job do you perform during the morning or afternoon shift? Does it involve any physical labor? Are you physically capable of resuming your duties? Have you obtained a medical fitness certificate?

This information is necessary for your application.

Thank you,
Dinesh Divekar

Thank you for your response.

Yes, a vacancy exists, and my boss is ready and interested in giving back my job. I just need to request a morning shift. If it's possible to arrange a morning shift for me, then I will rejoin. I just want to convey this to my boss in a simple, formal way.

Dear Maggi54,

The required draft is as below:

Date: -

From: - _____________ (name)

___________

___________ (address)

To,

The Managing Director

Application for Reemployment for the Post of __________ (designation)

Dear Sir,

I was an employee of __________ (name of the company). My employee number was ___________ and my designation was ___________. I left the company because I met with an accident on __________. Since my physical condition did not allow me to work, I had to resign from my job. My last working day was ______ (date). Notwithstanding my abrupt exit because of the unforeseen reason, overall, I had worked to the satisfaction of my seniors.

Now my physical condition has improved, and I am capable of working. I have attached a medical fitness certificate to this application. I understand that the vacancy for my position is still open. Therefore, may I request you to consider my candidature to fill this post? Due to my resignation, there is now a break in service, making it a fresh employment.

I have family responsibilities, and the continuation of my employment is important to me. While I have mostly recovered, some marginal improvements to my health are still pending and will happen in the coming weeks. Nevertheless, without waiting for complete recovery, I need to strike a balance between the working conditions of the shift and my present medical condition. Therefore, in addition to the reemployment, I request you to give me a chance to work in the morning shift until ____________ (date). I would be highly obliged to you if you could accept this additional request as well.

Warm regards,

_____________ (Signature)

Thanks,

Respected Sir,

I am XXX. I am writing this letter to request you for my rejoining of the company. As you know, I resigned from the company two months ago due to a leg injury in a road accident. I have now recovered. I would like to rejoin if it is possible to arrange a fixed morning shift for me. When I have the afternoon shift, I have to travel at night. I am unable to travel at night as I had the accident during that time, and I come from a long distance in heavy traffic. If it is possible to arrange a morning shift for me, then I can rejoin.

I hope you consider my request and do the needful.

Thanks and Regards,

Yours sincerely,

XXXXX

Hello Dinesh Divekar,

The above letter was written based on what my boss expects from me. My boss won't ask for a medical certificate or resignation dates because I am still in contact with my boss. Therefore, there is a higher chance of getting a fixed morning schedule. That's why I would like to request my boss through a letter.

Dear Maggie54,

It is juniors who are supposed to provide the drafts of the letters to the seniors, and then seniors correct them. Once a senior provides a draft, taking a clue from it and proposing corrections is not appreciated at all. If you were that capable, then why did you not provide the draft in the first post itself? Not just grammatical mistakes, there is an inherent flaw in your draft. It appears that God has blessed you by not making you work under seniors who are picky about the quality of English. Anyway, there is no point in educating you. Please go ahead the way you wanted to.

Thanks,

Actually, I was expecting a simple, small letter in a formal way, so I thought to share my letter. I think I should post my letter before. Please don't misunderstand.

Okay, anyways, thanks for your replies and helping me. Thank you.

Hello Maggi54,

Without delving into the semantics of what Dinesh Divekar mentioned or suggested in his draft letter, here are a few points that I believe you need to keep in mind while handling such situations.

First and foremost, a clear deadline or timeline needs to be established when requesting a special favor from your manager. It cannot be an open-ended favor. Even if your manager is currently agreeable to it, please note that this situation could potentially backfire on you in the future. Managers can change jobs, and the new manager is not obligated to provide the same favor.

Secondly, requesting permanent nighttime travel as a lifelong favor is not beneficial for you. It is your responsibility to find a solution to this issue. Additionally, it is essential to acknowledge that there are many individuals with disabilities of both genders who frequently travel for work, including within the same city where you reside.

If this matter is of significant concern to you, consider relocating closer to your office or seeking employment closer to your home. Relying on the compassion of others indefinitely is not a sustainable approach.

Regarding the attachment of the Medical Fitness Certificate, it is your duty to protect your boss. There is a possibility that he may face inquiries in the future regarding the rationale for rehiring you. Remember, you are interacting with an organization, not just an individual—your boss serves as a representative of the company.

Simply because your boss does not request the certificate does not mean you should take things for granted, potentially putting him in a difficult position due to his willingness to assist you. This behavior can be viewed as taking advantage of others.

Lastly, regardless of the length of the letter, whether it is concise or detailed, ensure that all pertinent points are covered. The focus should be on addressing all aspects of the case rather than the size of the letter.

Best of luck.

Regards,

TS

Dear Maggi,

I completely agree with Dineshji. It would have been better if you had sent the draft in the first place. Seniors would have corrected it. You expected a ready-made letter, and now you want it to be a simple note. How does it harm if you write a proper formal letter with all the dates and other details? Since this is an official matter, it might as well send an official letter, which will be helpful for the records too. Anyway, it's up to you to decide.
