Hi,

FIRE-B stands for Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior. It is a model for assessing our relationships-oriented personality originally developed by William C. Schutz in the year 1952, in his book, "FIREO-B: A Three-dimensional Theory of Interpersonal Relations." It was used in general social relations for assessing relationships among people in general. The late '70s witnessed its entry into OB in organizations. It is a very lengthy procedure starting with an instrument consisting of about 100 plus questions, and measured on three dimensions called "Need for Inclusion, Affection (now it is called Openness), and Need for Control." Each of these three needs has a dichotomy of two extremes, each need expressed and wanted. Hence, Inclusion-Expressed, Inclusion-Wanted, Affection-Expressed, Affection-Wanted, Control-Expressed, and Control-Wanted. The scoring will provide a person's profiles accordingly on all three dimensions.
