This is a damn neat idea..
However their training session should be conducted on a more informal note with lots of games etc and rekindling a sense of self-respect in them. This will make them feel that they r also something as a human being.
I think trng shud include attire etiquettes, behavioural mannerisms etc. It will be better if such staff are given co. shirts/ t-shirts, this will take care of their bad attire

my personal feeling..... knowing basic etiquettes is vital. be it an office boy, housekeeping boy or any staff. Since we r more qualitively educated, we have it with us. All may not have this opportunity.
IT IS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED. But, organising & measuring effectiveness is more important & challenging. PLAN, PLAN & PLAN. Why call for such a training hapazordly. Plan it in advance, keep them also informed & go ahead. Be it childs school fee or cricket match, MAKE THEM FEEL / REALISE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PROGRAM AND JUST WAIT AND WATCH THE RESPONSE U GET FROMT HEM. Amazing Dear. Go ahead.

Hi All,
I agree that its very important to impart some of the soft skill on office boys and that too that these people do not take any such interest in the same.
But what an HR manager can do is that first tell them about the advantages of getting these things learned and about the development they will get from such a training program and also some plan can also be laid that whoever get these skills learned, that person will get some raise in his own job..
Thanks and Regards

Training to Office Boy.. Interesting. If the training covers office ettiquettes, time management, conflict resolution and service orientation then it can prove benficial to their effectiveness.
According to me, following points can be considered though:
1. Timing Of Such Training: Closely before their increment, as they will be in a state of anxiety and will demonstrate positive behavior.
2. Language: Training should be imparted in local language that is easily understood by them.
3. Duration: Such training should be scheduled for no more than 2 hours at a go. Preferably between 3 to 5 pm on a friday or working saturday.
4. Benefits: All office boys must be given a letter of participation in the training at the end of the session with a vote of thanks.
And yo! you will have a team of office staff all pepped up and feeling worthy.. very proud of the Company.

Hi Amit,
Talking about cricket match and stating that the office boys will not be interested!
Forget office boys, how many executives would also be interested in having a trng prog at that time?
To state that office boys will not be interested because they earn less is something I would not agree. You already have a preconceived notion that it wont work. Firstly you require to be positive.
As a consultant to an org. I had suggested that we train waiters who were unionised by giving them an incentive.
The incentive was, call them after their duty timings and give them OT.
The prog. was a great success. The staff's productivity went up, customer satisfaction improved and most importantly the waiters were charged up and totally motivated after they went through my trng. prog.
So look at what makes them happy. How you put it up to them, how you motivate them and how you lead them upto the prog and after the prog are very imp issues.
Rgds,
