You need to take exemption from maintaining manual attendance and wage register as prescribed under minimum wages act from concerned Dy labor commissioner.

In addition to what Mr. Kamal told I will advise you to take the print out of the muster roll, wage register and Overtime Register and keep the record of the completed month. If you are depositing the wages in the Bank, then attach the receipted copy of Bank remittance details alongiwth the Muster roll, so that the signature of worker is not required.

In Maharashtra manual Attendance Register / Attendance Card / Payroll are to be maintained under section 31 of Minimum wages rule 1963.
To have a computerized attendance register and payroll, prior exemption from the Dy Labor Commissioner is a must.

Dear Nishant Singh,

This pertains to query whether you are required to maintain Muster-Roll, Wages Register and Pay Slips etc when you have gone online. I was wondering what means "online going".

What simply you have done is that you have introduced a data collection system of attendance and based on that you can calculate salary of employees and other record.

Many factories still have manual attendance system. Now, let me know whether there is manual attendance marking or automatic by bio metric marking system or any thing else, how does it absolves the maintenance of Muster, Wage registers etc. It does not exempt you from maintaining the records pertaining to attendance, wage distribution etc. More and more automated, accurate, fast data entry systems are on its way, but that's only an input method of time record. It does not allow you to dispense with the registers and records of employees. However, for the purposes of easy computing, if you want certain changes or modifications in format of Wage Register or Attendance, the rules allow that and with approval from Labour Commissioner, you can have a suitable format. But you can not do away with maintenance of statutory registers etc.

These punching / attendance machines many times do not work. Reasons, technical faults, electricity problems, if It is finger touch and employee got hurt to that finger, and many other reasons. Chances of data getting deleted or corrupted are also there. On labour office permission, though you are allowed to stop manual attendance register, it is suggested to keep manual register, atleast attendance register, parallelly live. After about an years experience, you may decide about scrapping the manual system.

Dear All,
I am working in a manufacturing company as a HR, My company also wants to install biometric punching system. is it possible to connect punching system to payroll software? so attendance can be feed directly in the payroll software.
