Incident Prevention and Safety Measures

I would like to share some learnings from an incident that could have led to a fatality. It was people's alertness at the gate that helped avoid fatalities.

The basic reasons include parking the vehicle without applying the parking brake, not positioning a wheel stopper, and leaving the engine running. As our ABC plant has general contours with a slope, the vehicle moved slowly because it was kept in a running condition.

Therefore, we need to be extra vigilant whenever and wherever you come across such observations and take care of the following:

• Vehicle parked in running condition: Ask for checking the functioning of the self-start. If it is not working, inform security, and security shall not allow such vehicles.

• Insist on using wheel stoppers when the vehicle is in a stopped condition.

• Avoid sitting, sleeping, or taking rest near or underneath vehicles.

• Parking on slopes should not be allowed.

Confidentiality Note

I mentioned ABC instead of the company name as knowing the name of the company is not that important. Please find the attached photo of this incident.

You said exactly right! Just sharing this incident that happened at the airport last week. My friend and I were going to send off our friend. When we reached the airport, I felt hungry, so I stepped off from the gate entrance near the ice cream parlor. I grabbed some ice cream and saw off my friend. As soon as we came back to the parking area, I was shocked to see that my friend had forgotten to apply the PARK/HAND BRAKE. He had stopped on a slope, resulting in a collision with another vehicle, and we received a 30,000 Fdj fine. He is still upset about that incident...

Importance of Applying the Parking Brake

It is the law that we need to apply the PARK/HAND BRAKE when we park (OSHA 1926.601(b)).

A good wake-up call, Mr. Inder. I will share this with my colleagues.

Keep on sharing.
